Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 15, 2025
At Izmyth, we're straight with you about how we handle your information. This isn't one of those policies written by lawyers for lawyers. We've built our investment education platform with your privacy as a priority, and this document explains exactly what we do—and don't do—with your data.
Who We Are
Izmyth operates from 1400 Roselawn Dr, Windsor, ON N9E 1L8, Canada. We provide introductory investment education to Canadians who want to understand the basics before putting their money anywhere. When we say "we," "us," or "our" in this policy, we're talking about Izmyth and our team.
You can reach our privacy team at [email protected] or call us at +1 705 432 2311 if you have questions about anything in this document.
What Information We Collect
We collect different types of information depending on how you interact with our platform. Here's the breakdown:
Information You Give Us Directly
When you sign up for our learning program or contact us, you provide details like your name, email address, phone number, and sometimes your mailing address. If you participate in our courses, we also collect information about your progress—which modules you've completed, quiz scores, and areas where you might need extra support.
Information We Collect Automatically
Like most websites, we gather technical information when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, device information, and how you navigate through our site. We use standard cookies and similar tracking to make the site work properly and understand which content resonates with visitors.
Information From Other Sources
Occasionally, we receive information from third-party services we use—like our email platform or learning management system. This helps us keep your account synchronized across different tools we use to deliver our educational content.
How We Use Your Information
We're not in the business of collecting data just to have it. Everything we gather serves a specific purpose:
- Delivering the educational content you signed up for and tracking your progress through courses
- Communicating with you about your account, course updates, and answering your questions
- Improving our learning materials based on how students interact with different modules
- Sending relevant educational resources and updates about new content (you can opt out anytime)
- Protecting our platform from fraud, spam, and security threats
- Meeting legal obligations and responding to lawful requests from authorities
Important note about marketing: We'll send you educational updates and relevant investment learning resources. But if you'd rather not receive these, there's an unsubscribe link in every email. Course-related messages (like password resets or enrollment confirmations) will still come through since they're necessary for the service.
Legal Basis for Processing (Canadian Context)
Under Canadian privacy law, specifically PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), we process your information based on consent and legitimate interests.
When you create an account or sign up for our programs, you're giving us consent to use your information for those purposes. For things like improving our service or preventing fraud, we rely on legitimate business interests—but we always balance this against your privacy rights.
Who We Share Information With
We don't sell your personal information. Period. But we do work with certain service providers who help us run the platform:
Service Providers
Companies that help us with email delivery, cloud hosting, payment processing, and learning management systems. These providers can only use your information to provide services to us—they can't use it for their own purposes.
Legal Requirements
If we receive a valid legal request from law enforcement or government authorities, we may need to disclose certain information. We'll always review these requests carefully and only provide what's legally required.
Business Transfers
If Izmyth is acquired by another company or merges with another organization, your information would transfer to the new entity. We'd notify you before this happens and explain any changes to how your data is handled.
Your Privacy Rights in Canada
Canadian privacy law gives you substantial control over your personal information. Here's what you can do:
Access Your Information
You can request a copy of all personal information we hold about you. We'll provide this within 30 days, free of charge for your first request each year.
Correct Inaccurate Data
If any information we have is wrong or outdated, you can ask us to fix it. You can update most details directly through your account settings.
Delete Your Account
You have the right to request deletion of your account and associated data. We'll process this within 30 days, though we may keep certain records for legal or accounting purposes.
Withdraw Consent
You can withdraw consent for us to process your information at any time. Depending on what you withdraw consent for, this might mean we can't continue providing certain services.
Opt Out of Marketing
You can unsubscribe from promotional emails anytime using the link in each message, or by contacting us directly.
File a Complaint
If you're not satisfied with how we handle your privacy concerns, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with your request. We'll verify your identity and respond within 30 days.
How We Protect Your Information
Security isn't just a checkbox for us. We use industry-standard encryption for data transmission (TLS 1.3), secure our servers with regular security updates, and limit employee access to personal information on a need-to-know basis.
We also regularly backup data to prevent loss and conduct security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities. But here's the honest truth: no system is 100% secure. We do everything reasonable to protect your data, but we can't guarantee absolute security.
On your end, you should use a strong, unique password for your account and never share your login credentials with anyone.
How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your information for as long as you have an active account with us. If you close your account, we'll delete most of your personal information within 90 days.
Some information we need to keep longer for legal reasons—like financial records (7 years for Canadian tax purposes) or information related to disputes or investigations. Course completion records might be retained to verify credentials if you need proof of completion in the future.
Anonymous usage data that can't be tied back to you might be kept indefinitely to help us improve our educational content.
Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies—small text files stored on your device—to make the site work properly and understand how people use it. Some cookies are essential (like the ones that keep you logged in), while others help us analyze which educational content is most helpful.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking all cookies might break some site functionality, but you're free to do so. We don't use cookies to track you across other websites.
Third-Party Links
Our educational content sometimes links to external resources—articles, videos, tools from other providers. Once you click those links, you're subject to the privacy practices of those other sites. We can't control how they handle data, so check their privacy policies if you're concerned.
Children's Privacy
Our service is designed for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover we've accidentally collected data from a minor, we'll delete it immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this policy occasionally as our practices evolve or laws change. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email and post a notice on the site. The "Last Updated" date at the top tells you when the most recent changes were made.
Continuing to use our service after changes means you accept the updated policy. If you don't agree with changes, you can close your account.
International Data Transfers
While we primarily serve Canadian users and store data within Canada, some of our service providers may process information in other countries. When this happens, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through contractual commitments that these providers will protect your data according to Canadian privacy standards.
