Making Financial Learning Actually Make Sense

We started Izmyth because frankly, most investing education felt either intimidating or misleading. Since 2019, we've been building something different—practical programs that meet people where they actually are, not where finance textbooks think they should be.

How We Got Here

Back in early 2019, Linnea was teaching community workshops in Windsor. She kept meeting the same folks—people who wanted to understand investing but felt shut out by jargon and complexity. Most resources either dumbed things down too much or assumed you already spoke fluent Wall Street.

So we built something in the middle. Programs that respect your intelligence while actually explaining things. It's been a journey of constant refinement, listening to hundreds of learners, and figuring out what actually helps people gain confidence with their finances.

Our Path Forward

2019

Foundation

Started with small in-person workshops in Windsor. Twenty people in a community center learning how markets actually function.

2021

Digital Shift

Pandemic pushed us online. Turned out virtual learning worked—people could revisit content at their own pace, which they appreciated.

2023

Program Growth

Expanded beyond basics into specialized topics. Added modules on portfolio building and risk assessment based on what learners kept asking for.

2025

Looking Ahead

Developing more interactive tools and planning cohort-based programs starting fall 2025. Always testing, always improving.

Who's Behind This

Linnea Vanburen, Founder and Chief Educator at Izmyth

Linnea Vanburen

Founder and Chief Educator

Linnea spent twelve years in financial planning before realizing most people needed education before advice. She's obsessed with breaking down complex concepts without losing accuracy—something her former clients always valued. Outside work, she's usually hiking trails around Essex County or testing new curriculum ideas on patient friends.

Dariusz Pemberton, Co-Founder and Program Director at Izmyth

Dariusz Pemberton

Co-Founder and Program Director

Dariusz came from education technology, having built learning platforms for technical training programs. He handles the structure behind our courses—making sure everything flows logically and that learners can actually find what they need when they need it. His background in instructional design keeps our content organized even as we keep adding to it.

What We're Working Toward

Education That Sticks

Financial literacy shouldn't evaporate the moment you close the tab. We design programs around retention and practical application. That means examples from real market conditions, case studies people can relate to, and follow-up resources that actually help when you're making decisions later.

Honest About Limitations

Here's what we won't tell you: that investing is simple, that there's a guaranteed path to wealth, or that education alone solves everything. Markets are complex. Personal circumstances vary wildly. What we can do is help you understand the fundamentals well enough to make informed choices and spot misleading advice when you see it.

Building for 2026 and Beyond

Our fall 2025 cohorts will introduce more collaborative learning—small groups working through scenarios together. We're also developing tools for tracking your learning progress over time, not in a gamified way, but so you can see what concepts might need review before you make real financial moves.
